Stanford 20/20 fans get ready to rise to your feet as the new Stanford 20/20 Tournament song, featuring soca king Machel Montano and Antiguan soca siren Claudette “CP” Peters, saturates the radio airwaves and pumps up the region in anticipation of the biggest cricket showdown in the Caribbean.

Entitled Come Rise With Me, the theme song for the 2008 competition encourages listeners to rise up and support their team and get ready for a good time in Antigua at the Stanford Cricket Ground come January. It also talks about the unity that the game fosters; the unique elements such as matches under lights, black bats and colourful uniforms; and promotes the theme for the Tournament which is When Night Falls, Cricket Rises.

Fans will not be able to resist Claudette Peters’ invitation to rise, while the energy and excitement of two-time Trinidad Carnival Road March winner Machel Montano will compel them to stay on their feet and enjoy the kind of ‘liming’ that is unique to cricket in the Caribbean and embraced by the world.

Last year’s theme song Let The Battle Begin, performed by Beenie Man and Patrice Roberts, has been officially adopted as the Stanford 20/20 anthem and cricket fans will be able to enjoy both songs during the Tournament. In addition, the singers of both songs are expected to perform live during the competition.

“We are so excited to have Machel and Claudette join the Stanford 20/20 family!” said Rhonda Kelly, Stanford 20/20 Event Director. “As Antigua’s reigning Soca Monarch for the past three years, Claudette’s star is definitely rising and we are so honoured to have her powerful and dynamic voice as part of the Tournament this year. Machel’s career and reputation as a high-energy, electrifying entertainer speaks for itself and we are looking forward to thrilling performances from this duo. The song will definitely bring a soca atmosphere to the event which will go well with last year’s song and anthem which had more of a dancehall vibe.”

Kelly encouraged fans to log on to the Stanford2020.com website to download the song and view the music video.

The Stanford 20/20 Tournament will be held in January and February of 2008 and the tournament will have more excitement and all matches being played under the lights at the Stanford Cricket Ground.

Guyana, winner of the inaugural tournament in 2006 will defend its title and seek to pocket another US$1M, the top prize for the tournament’s victorious team.
