What is RSS?

RSS - really simple syndication -- is a labor-saving tool that allows people to tune into information sources that interest them. The information source could be a blog, a podcast, a videocast or any web site that includes RSS feeds.RSS also known as Rich Site Summary delivers regularly changing web contentto whoever wants it.
RSS solves a problem for people who regularly use the web. It allows you to easily stay informed by retrieving the latest content from the sites you are interested in. You save time by not needing to visit each site individually. You save time, by not needing to join each site's email newsletter. The number of sites offering RSS feeds is growing rapidly and includes big names like Yahoo News.
RSS feeds bring automatically updated information straight to your desktop. You can monitor news, job listings, personals, and classifieds. More and more sites offer feeds, which you can identify by a small button that says either RSS or XML. However, if you click one of these links, you will most likely get a page full of code in your browser. To properly read the feed, you need an RSS reader which can be installed on any computer or mobile device you may have like a PDA, laptop, or cell phone. Some popular RSS readers include (and almost all are FREE):

MyYahoo
MyMSN

MyAOL
MyGoogle
Bloglines
FeedDemon (this one costs money)
NewsGator (there is a cost for mobile accessibility)
NetVibes
PageFlakes
Shrook (For Mac users. Free trial and then there's a cost.)

Lektora
Attensa (more for enterprise, and there's a cost)

Another alternative to the above news Aggregator programmes that collect, update and display RSS feeds is to incorporate your RSS feeds into weblogs. Many aggregators are separate, "stand-alone" programs such as those listed above; other services will let you add RSS feeds to a Web page. www.caribbeanhot30.com lets you add RSS feeds to your own web page; to make this easy you can click on the rss buttons found on many of our pages.
