Jamaican reggae singer Jah Cure, also known as Siccature Alcock, was arrested in
Trinidad and Tobago last night at the Hyatt Regency Trinidad Hotel. Caribbean Hot 30 learns the reason for the charge is failure to pay a local promoter money owed in the amount of US$ 19,993. He was arrested at the Hyatt Regency Trinidad Hotel after being due to perform at a concert labeled “It’s Jah Cure Again” in San Fernando.
Promoter, Handel Anthony originally from Tobago, said he found out that Jah Cure was billed as the headline performer at the concert and that it was in clear breach of the artiste’s agreement to give exclusive rights for his next performance in Trinidad and Tobago. He said he faced the real risk of not being able to recover his money if Jah Cure had returned to his home in Jamaica after the concert. Jah Cure would only have been able to perform at the event if he was able to pay the money in cash or sign a security bond for the amount owed. A warrant was issued for Jah Cure’s arrest following an application from Handle.
Caribbean Hot 30 also learns that armed police officers arrived at the hotel just before 7 p.m. the same night and chatted with hotel security officials for roughly 15 minutes before entering the hotel and taking Jah Cure to the police headquarters in Port of Spain. He was detained for almost 3 hours, then released from custody and taken to the Boom Champions studios. Sources say Jah Cure seemed hesitant to discuss details of the arrest, but claimed it was an attempt to sabotage the show. However he also said that he was not going to let that negatively affect his show performance.
Jah Cure was recently released from jail in Jamaica after serving nine years for rape. He was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment on April 26, 1999, in Jamaica, for two counts of rape, robbery with aggravation, and illegal possession of firearm, all arising from the same incident. He received this sentence at age 19. He was eventually released after nine years to much fanfare. He has performed numerous times to sold out crowds and is a local favorite in Trinidad and Tobago.
